Columbus Police Department to Host K9 Swearing-In Ceremony

The Columbus Police Department will hold a special ceremony on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Public Safety Center (510 10th Street) to officially swear in its four newest K9 officers. This milestone marks the largest K9 Unit in CPD history and the first time the department has had full-service K9s, trained in narcotics detection, explosive detection, tracking, and apprehension.

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at approximately 2:49 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 4300 block of Warm Springs Road (The Lakes Apartments) in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive Black male (later identified as Martavis McKinnie, 28) lying on the ground.
CPD’s Property Crimes Unit Arrests 19 People in July, Filing 56 Charges

Four Suspects Charged in March Homicide

On March 29, 2025, Columbus Police Officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Curtis Street in reference to an individual who had been assaulted. Responding officers discovered a male (later identified as Topher MacQuire, 53) conscious and complaining of chest pain.
Speed Camera Enforcement Begins August 4th in Muscogee County School Zones

Beginning Monday, August 4, 2025, all school zones in the Muscogee County School District with active speed enforcement cameras will begin issuing citations. Warnings will no longer be given in the 20 active school zones.
Stone Way Drive Shooting Investigation

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, around 5:54 a.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 6100 block of Stone Way Drive. Upon arrival, they located a male victim (later identified as Hernandez Hubbard II, 21) inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
