The Columbus Police Department has made an arrest in a fraud case involving more than half a million dollars in counterfeit checks. William Chadwick Jones, 19, was taken into custody this week after an investigation revealed that he opened a business account with Synovus Bank in January 2025.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, around 9:12 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to reports of shots fired near 64 Lafayette Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim (later identified as Paul Richardson, 35) suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Columbus Police Department (CPD) has officially activated automated speed enforcement cameras at 20 designated school zones across the city.

The funeral service for Columbus City Councilor At-Large, Ms. Judy Thomas, will take place on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at St. Luke Church (1104 2nd Avenue). The service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m.

On May 6, 2025, the Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit located the Kia Soul used in the murder of Chastin Hunter at a residence on Hawaii Way. A search warrant was executed at that location, and additional evidence was seized.

On May 6, 2025, around 5:30 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of Vineville Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male (later identified as David Escobar, 17) suffering from a gunshot wound.

On May 5, 2025, around 2:39 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 3700 block of Cusseta Road in reference to a shooting.

On April 28, 2025, around 5:28 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a hit and run in the 3000 block of Williams Road (Summit Pointe Apartments). A white SUV struck a parked vehicle before leaving the scene.

A suspect is in custody following two separate robberies at local smoke shops. On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Columbus Police Officers responded to the 5000 block of Lakeshore Road (101 Smoke Shop) in reference to an armed robbery.
