Man Shot and Killed on Colorado Street, Suspect Arrested

The investigation led to Jaleel Taylor, 30, being identified as the suspect. On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Taylor was taken into custody with the assistance of the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with Murder, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Teen Killed in Shooting on 8th Street

On Monday, September 18, 2023 at 5:13 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 2800 block of 8th Street (Fluellen Recreational Center) in reference to a shooting. Responding officers found a Black male (later identified as Deshaunvia Lindsey, 15) suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS arrived and transported the victim to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he succumbed to his injuries.

Suspect Wanted: Child Killed, Woman Injured in Shooting

On Monday, September 18, 2023 at 8:02 a.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 3300 block of North Lumpkin Road (Liberty Commons Apartments) concerning a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female suffering from gunshot wounds. They later discovered a male (later identified as Jacquese Walker, Jr., 4) deceased from a gunshot wound. EMS arrived on the scene and transported the female to Piedmont Columbus Regional where she remains in critical condition.

Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault on Riverwalk

A man has pleaded guilty to a series of charges to include Rape, Aggravated Sodomy and Kidnapping. On September 21, 2021 around 7:00 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a call concerning a sexual assault that occurred on the Riverwalk. The investigation that followed led to the identification of Shaquille Tyree Smith as the suspect.
