The Columbus Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit has arrested six individuals connected to a series of air conditioning unit thefts impacting businesses, churches, and residences across the city.

The Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the Special Operations Unit and the United States Marshals Service, conducted targeted operations throughout March 2026, resulting in the arrest of 44 individuals with outstanding warrants.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Columbus Police Department will partner with St. Anne Outreach for a Community Day event.

On April 2, 2026 at 11:50 p.m., Columbus Police Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Victory Drive in reference to a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Calvin Mitchell, 37) suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS responded to the scene and transported him to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he died from his injuries.

Dwayne Quarles, 50, has been taken into custody in connection to the death of Calvin Mitchell. Quarles is charged with Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The arrest was a coordinated effort between CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and SWAT Team.

On March 11, 2026, the Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2900 block of 10th Street. During the search, investigators recovered illegal narcotics, two stolen firearms, and U.S. currency.

The Columbus Police Department will join Rally Point Harley-Davidson for two charitable check presentations on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Rally Point Harley-Davidson (3230 Williams Road). 

The Columbus Police Department has arrested two of its officers, Ulises Hernandez and Leonard Forsyth, in separate and unrelated incidents involving allegations of crimes against children.
