The Columbus Animal Care and Control Center, within the Special Enforcement Division of the Columbus, Georgia Consolidated Government's Department of Public Works, provides animal control services for the citizens of Columbus and cares for approximately 8,400 stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals per year.
The Animal Control section is comprised of one Animal Control Field Supervisor, (8) Animal Control Officers, One Shelter Supervisor and four (4) Animal Control Technicians. The employees within this section are tasked with enforcing all local codes and ordinances and state laws governing animal health and welfare as well as efficiently maintaining the Animal Care and Control Center.
The Animal Care and Control Center was opened in January 2009. It is comprised of 52 indoor runs (including quarantine and sick runs) and 32 cat cages.
For the 2009 fiscal year, 7,905 animals were impounded; placements for 762 animals and 707 animals were reunited with their owners.
We want every healthy animal impounded at the center to be adopted into good homes. Therefore, we are actively seeking animal lovers to adopt these animals. If you are interested in adopting an animal, please contact our office at: 706.653.4512.
