About The Mayor's Commission on Health
The Mayor's Commission on Health, established by Mayor Henderson, is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of Columbus residents through a comprehensive and collaborative approach to healthcare. Our initiative, known as Columbus Correct Care, focuses on expanding access to health resources and supporting programs that promote healthier lifestyles. While the Fire-EMS Department leads the implementation of this vision, it is a true community effort—bringing together a diverse network of organizations, agencies, and stakeholders to create meaningful and lasting improvements in public health effort.
Columbus Correct Care (CCC)
- A collaborative initiative addressing emergency and non-emergency medical care, mental health needs, and critical social services (e.g., housing and food security).
- Developed under the Center for Innovation and Leadership (CIL), which promotes partnerships among public service, business, and academia.
Key Components
- EMS Service Model Change: Transition ambulance staffing to Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) and allocate paramedics to engine companies. This has allowed our Department to put advanced life support capability on the scene of medical emergencies much more quickly.
- Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH): The Department is rolling out MIH units to proactively address community healthcare needs in four key areas:
- High-volume users: Focused care for frequent EMS users via paramedic-nurse practitioner teams.
- Mental health: Collaboration with mental health practitioners and local law enforcement to address crises.
- Social services: Partnering with social workers to address social service needs like housing and food insecurity.
- Veterans services: Working with veteran service groups, this resource will address specific needs of veterans in our community.
