PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING A PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Consolidated Government of Columbus, Georgia, today announces its intention to increase the 2026 property taxes it will levy this year over the rollback millage rate in the following taxing districts:

  • Urban Services District #1, #5, #6, #7 2.00 percent
  • Urban Services District #2 4.50 percent

Notice is hereby given that the local Government of Columbus, Georgia will alter or suspend all services on Monday, May 25, 2026. This is with the exception of emergency services such as fire, police, and ambulance. For emergency services, please call the 911 Emergency Center.

Buena Vista Road/I-185 Interchange Scheduled for New Traffic Pattern Shift to Occur Overnight May 29-30

Contractors for the Buena Vista Road interchange at Interstate 185 improvements project have scheduled the traffic shift to the interchange's new diverging diamond pattern to occur starting Friday evening, May 29, from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am, Saturday morning, May 30, 2026, weather permitting. Alert signage will be installed in advance to alert drivers of this scheduled change.

Champions of Character Cleanup Effort

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission is partnering with Columbus Sports Council, which is hosting the NAIA Softball World Series, for a community cleanup effort. This project will be led by the softball players participating in the NAIA World Series. Local female softball athletes from various high schools will also be assisting with the cleanup effort.
