The Greater Columbus, GA Sports and Events Council is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
- Our Mission
- To foster economic development in the City of Columbus through the recruitment and facilitation of local sporting events, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the support of recreational facilities in the community.
We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented person to strengthen our team.
- Position Summary
- The Events Coordinator will be responsible for servicing and activation of Columbus Sports Council (CSC) sporting events. Additionally, this person will be responsible for coordinating logistics for CSC events. This is a full-time position.
- Reports To:
- CSC Executive Director
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in marketing, business management, public relations, or a related field
- Two to three years' experience in sports tourism or special event coordination
- Process-oriented with extreme attention to detail
Preferred Additional Requirements
- Experience in sales
- Knowledge of MS Office and database experience
- Sports STS designation
Responsibilities
- Coordinates logistics for CSC events – including but not limited to venue support, permitting, government operations, security, medical, equipment, and transportation
- Update and maintain facility databases and usage
- Develops, implements, and maintains event plans to promote the work of the CSC
- Update, manage, and cultivate relationships with community sports groups, acting as a liaison to better ensure success of local partnership events
- Promote CSC events to enhance brand awareness
- Contributes to a positive work environment that fosters teamwork and provides for personal and organizational growth
- Attend sports-related tradeshows and meetings to promote CSC as a premier sports destination
- Other projects and duties as assigned by the Executive Director
- Evening meetings, weekend hours, and occasional travel required
Skills and Abilities
- Experience with the development and management of sporting events
- Strong prospect research and negotiating skills
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to problem-solve
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team and independently; self-motivated
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Proficiency in the use of computers, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing
- Knowledge of special events planning and event coordination/management
- Ability to manage interns
- Ability to continuously stand, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds frequently
