CPD REQUESTING ASSISTANCE IN BURGLARY INVESTIGATION

The Columbus Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in a recent burglary investigation. On May 23, 2023 and May 31, 2023, an unidentified male broke into the Country’s Barbecue Corporate Office on 12th Avenue. During both incidents, the suspect gained entry by throwing a rock to shatter the glass door and stole items.

MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN SWEETWATER DRIVE SHOOTING

 Tuesday, May 30, 2023

On February 3, 2022 at 7:31 p.m., officers in the Columbus Police Department’s Patrol Unit responded to the 100 block of Sweetwater Drive in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a Black male, later identified as Amari Crowell, 23, lying at the bottom of the stairwell suffering from a gunshot wound.

Alabama Traffic Stop Leads to the Arrest of Columbus Murder Suspect

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, a police officer with the Abbeville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. The driver, after refusing to identify himself, was taken to jail where he was positively identified as Justin Rondu Reeves, 33.

GROVE PARK APARTMENTS MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED IN KANSAS

 Thursday, May 11, 2023

On November 17, 2022 at 1:33 p.m., Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Grove Park Drive (Grove Park Apartments) concerning a sick or injured person. Responding officers found the victim unresponsive inside the residence. Deputy Coroners Elizabeth Allison and Dustin Harrison arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim, later identified as Kerry Binns, 50, deceased at 2:07 p.m.

CPD OFFICER EXPOSED TO POSSIBLE FENTANYL

 Saturday, May 6, 2023

On Friday, May 5, 2023, Columbus Police Officers responded to a vehicle accident on Airport Thruway and Whitesville Road. During the investigation, officers noticed the driver appeared to be impaired. While one of the officers transported the driver to the hospital, the other officer began to search and inventory the vehicle in preparation for it to be towed.

PURSUIT ENDS WITH STANDOFF, ARREST

 Saturday, May 6, 2023

On Friday, May 5, 2023 at 6:37 p.m., Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol initiated a pursuit on a vehicle that was driving erratically and failed to stop. The pursuit ended in the 6300 block of Boby Court when the driver, later identified as Darien Foster, ran into his home.

CPD TO HOST 40TH ANNUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA

The Columbus Police Department will host the 40th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Georgia on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The run will begin at the Public Safety Building (510 E. 10th Street). Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m. You do not have to be a law enforcement officer to participate in this event all are welcome!

The Columbus Consolidated Government announced the city will be celebrating “Georgia Cities Week” April 23-29, 2023. It’s part of an ongoing effort, and statewide initiative, to raise public awareness about cities’ services and educate the public on how city government works. There will be a variety of events in Columbus to celebrate Georgia Cities Week. The Columbus Police Department would like to personally invite you to two of those events.
