CPD Requests Public Assistance in Identifying an Individual

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a female
subject who may have been a witness to a recent crime. Her identity is currently unknown, and investigators would like
to speak with her as part of an ongoing investigation.

Holly Avenue Murder Investigation

On Sunday, September 9, 2024, at 7:43 p.m., Columbus Police officers received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the
4600 block of Holly Avenue. Upon arrival, responding Patrol officers located a Hispanic male who had been shot.

Trestlewood Drive Death Investigation

On Monday, September 2, 2024 at 6:24 p.m., Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of Trestlewood
Drive in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male (later identified as Marcus McLeod, 38) lying
on the floor, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police Investigate Deadly Shooting on Miller Road

 Monday, September 2, 2024

On Monday, September 2, 2024 at 2:22 a.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 5500 block of Miller Road in
reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male (later identified as Brody Birks, 34) suffering from a
gunshot wound. EMS transported Birks to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he succumbed to his injuries.

Murder of Jabreia Burston

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 8:52 p.m. Columbus Police officers responded to the 1400 block of Grove Park Drive
(Grove Park Apartments) in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a female (later identified as Jabreia
Burston, 24) lying in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Arrest Made in Deadly Shooting Investigation

On June 17, 2024 around 6:13 p.m., officers from the Columbus Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of 20th Avenue in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male (later identified as Michael Scott, 15) suffering from a gunshot wound.

Aggravated Assault Suspect Arrested

On July 29, 2024, at 11:57 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a shooting in the area of South Lumpkin Road and Hendrix Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, who reported being shot in both legs after the suspect stole her pistol.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11:46 p.m., Columbus Police officers received a call to South Lumpkin Road and Knox Street concerning a stabbing. Upon arrival, they discovered an SUV stopped in the roadway and a Black male (later identified as Cartez Shanklin, 33) suffering from a stab wound.
