Man Killed in Fort Benning Road Shooting

On Monday, January 8, 2024 at 6:05 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of Fort Benning Road. Responding officers located a Black male (later identified as William Brown, 39) suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Child Injured by Train, Parents Charged

On October 30, 2023, Columbus Police officers responded to the 700 block of Terminal Court in reference to a child being hit by a train. CPD’s Motor Squad responded to the scene to take lead on the investigation. The investigation revealed that the 6-year-old was playing near active train tracks when he fell underneath the moving train and was severely injured - resulting in the partial loss of a leg.

Man Dies After Shooting on Dirk Way

On December 18, 2023 at 5:52 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 500 block of Dirk Way in reference to a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Demetreus Heard) suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he was listed in critical condition.

Heard had been hospitalized since the day of the shooting. On December 28, 2023, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 2:12 p.m.

Search for Deadly Crash Witnesses

 Thursday, December 28, 2023

On December 6th, 2023, at 2:42 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the intersection of Macon Road and Chattsworth Road due to a three-vehicle accident with injuries. Ms. Kim Anderson, the driver of one of the vehicles, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to those injuries on December 16, 2023.
