Former YMCA Employee Arrested in Fraud Investigation

Donna Fiquett, 57, has been arrested in connection with an embezzlement case involving the YMCA of Columbus. Fiquett, the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the YMCA, is facing one count of Theft by Taking (Felony).

Abducted Children Found Safe in South Georgia, Mother Arrested

On today’s date, an arrest warrant was executed for the mother of both children. Kaila Spires, 39, has been taken into
custody in Tift County, GA. She is charged with two counts of Kidnapping.

Mayor’s Press Release on Death Investigation

We are aware of an incident that occurred last night October 5, 2023, involving two Columbus Police Department Officers and an individual placed into custody who later passed away after being transported to the hospital. The Mayor will have further comments at the conclusion of the investigation. This investigation is being conducted with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

On September 11, 2023 at 11:23 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 3400 block of 8th Avenue (Wilson Apartments) in reference to a person down. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Javon Smith) suffering from a gunshot wound...Probable cause was established to issue arrest warrants for Jadarious Greene, 18.

Deadly Shooting Investigation on Rigdon Road & 10th Street

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 8:37 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the area of Rigdon Road and 10th Street concerning a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Elijah Farral, 23) suffering from gunshot wounds.

Man Arrested in Armour Road Shooting Investigation

On August 27, 2023 at approximately 12:20 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the area of Armour Road and Sidney Simons Boulevard in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he was listed in stable condition.

Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Rape, Kidnapping

The Columbus Police Department has successfully closed a cold case dating back to May 1, 2015. On that day, officers responded to a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred in Columbus. Investigators who took over the case learned that the victim was kidnapped at gunpoint by two suspects who stole her vehicle then sexually assaulted her. Despite the efforts of investigators, leads at the time were exhausted and the case went cold.

Man Arrested in Vehicle Accident Involving a Juvenile Passenger

An arrest has been made in connection to a serious injury accident involving a 4-year-old passenger. The child was a passenger in a vehicle being operated by Jamaris Snipes, 29. The incident occurred on May 2, 2023 at 7:04 p.m. in the area of Kings Mountain Court and Kings Mountain Road. Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the scene in reference to the accident with injuries.

Two Charged with Homicide by Vehicle 1st Degree

Two people have been arrested in connection to a deadly hit and run that happened near St. Francis Hospital on Manchester Expressway. The incident claimed the life of a pedestrian, whose identity is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.
