The Crime Prevention Grant is a grant that assists agencies and non-profit organizations to fight and prevent crime within the community.

  • The organization, (units of local government, public education institutions, civic organizations or religious organizations), must be organized to serve within the Muscogee County borders.
  • The organization must have its Board of Directors or voting membership vote on and approve the grant application before submission.
  • The organization must show that it has the capacity and planning skills to complete the project successfully.
  • All grant recipients must provide at least 10% of project cost.
  • The organization must have a committee of volunteers and/or staff in place to carry out the project.
  • The grant application must include a detailed budget for the project.
  • Every organization involved must have a 501c3 status and submit a copy of the IRS letter or be a government agency of the CCG.
  • Every organization involved must submit a copy of their W-9 and current 990. They must also supply a Business License if they have one.
  • Application must be typed and not written.
  • You must turn in 1original placed in 3 ring binder.
  • You must email an electronic copy and provide a flash drive of all submitted material to Sethbrown@columbusga.org. The emailed copy must be in Microsoft Word format, not a PDF.
  • With your application include a separate precisely detailed budget of your program.
  • All applications become the property of the Office of Crime Prevention and will not be returned.

Applications with included paperwork are due March 31st each year.

After applications are submitted, the Director and staff will review for all the proper documents. At that point our office of Crime Prevention will schedule video interviews with each applicant and submit them to the Board. The Board will then spend the next 2-3 months reviewing and voting on approved submissions. Once the Board has made its recommendations, the Director will take them to Council for approval. This usually happens in late July or early August.

You will be notified by our office that your application has been approved for referral to Council. The final approval is then done by Council during their session, you will be invited to attend this session.
